Pre War
On 31 July 1937 Bob married Phyllis Eva Campbell (1916 - 2010) an they had two children. Phyllis died on 21 Jul 2010 aged 94 in Como.

War Service
On 28 Apr 1942 at Nyamup, Bob enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps, and was allocated to the 14th (Karri) VDC Battalion. However, at Manjimup on 25 Oct 1944 he was transferred to the 12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion. All VDC units were struck of strength on 15 Oct 1945.
