Harold enlisted in the CMF on 15 Oct 1940 at Ascot, and was appointed to the [[Camp Staff Ascot]]. On 10 Oct 1941 Harold was appointed Lance Corporal, and on 29 Jan 1942 he was promoted to Corporal. He was transferred to the [[4th Australian Army Trades Training Depot]] on 13 Jul 1942 remaining there until 2 Dec 1943 when he was transferred to the [[Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot]].
