WW1 Service
During WW1 Edward served as a Pte (50540) who enlisted on 6 May 1918 as an 18 year old. After early training in Australia and further training in Egypt he was allocated to the Australian Army Medical Corps Details, returning to Australian on 19 Jan 1919.
In 1928 Edward married Rubeana F (Ruby) Cull. Electoral Roll entries: 1935 - 1936 at Bunbury road, Armadale, labourer
WW2 Service
On 2 Dec 1940 Edward was mobilised into the CMF at Fremantle and was posted to the 55th Anti-Aircraft Company RAE. On 26 Sep 1941 he was assessed as Trade Group II Driver Mechanic, and on 28 Feb 1942 he volunteered to join the 2nd AIF with a new Army Number - WX30530. From 30 Nov 1942 until 25 Aug 1942 he was detached to a Labour Company, and from 30 Nov 1942 until 4 Feb 1943 to the Harvey Garrison. On 10 May 1943 he was detached to the 66th Australian Anti Aircraft Searchlight Company, remaining with them until 30 Mar 1944.
From 22 Jul 1944 until 30 Oct 1944 he was detached to BIPOD. On 20 Nov 1944 he was detached to the 18th Maintenance Platoon, where on 17 Jan 1945 he was granted Trade Group I status as a Fitter/Engineer. On 23 Jul 1945 he was detached to the 8th Anti-Aircraft Fortress Company for a week. On 21 Dec 1945 he was transferred to the Marrinup Prisoner of War Camp (Camp No 16) where on 8 Jan 1946 he was promoted Corporal, followed on 4 Feb 1946 when he was made a temporary Sergeant. His rank of Sergeant was confirmed on 15 Apr 1946.
Edward was discharged from Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot on 10 Jun 1947.
