Pre War
On 19 Jul 1933 John was engaged as an apprentice Fitter by the Western Australian Government Railways Midland Junction Workshop. He qualified as a Fitter on 9 Aug 1938. His employment with the WAGR ceased on 27 Sep 1938.
Electoral Roll entry: 1943 at 53 Swann street, East Guildford, fitter.
War Service
John's service record is in faded pencil and very difficult to read. He entered HMAS Cerberus on 22 Mar 1943, and remained there until posted to HMAS Torrens on 9 Dec 1943. While at HMAS Cerberus he spent a month from 15 Jun 1943 until 18 Jul 1943 as crew on HMAS Adelaide which was in Williamstown Dockyard undergoing a refit. The period between 9 Dec 1943 and late 1944 is unable to be read
It appears that John joined HMAS Warramunga in late 1944 and remained with her until 24 Nov 1945. He appears to have then spent a period on HMS Belfast from 25 Nov 1945 until 24 May 1946 when he was posted to HMAS Torrens to prepare for demobilisation which occurred on 8 Jul 1946. John had been granted his first Good Behaviour Badge on 22 Mar 1946, the same day that he was confirmed as Ordnance Artificer IV.
Post War
Electoral Roll entries: 1963 Bonnevue boulevard, Mont Morency, toolmaker; 1972 at 15 Cecil street, Eltham, fitter.
