Pre War

War Service
Original enlistment was in the CMF on 28 Nov 1940 with Army No W14404, serving with the 13th Field Ambulance. On 18 Jun 1941 he changed his service status to become a member of the 2nd AIF. On 23 Jun 1941 he was sent to the Naval Base Training Depot where, on 4 Jul 1941 he was appointed Lance Corporal. On 10 Jul 1941 he transferred to the 2/32 Infantry Battalion Reinforcements, joining them in the Northam Camp's 1st Training Battalion. On the 14th he was granted pre-embarkation leave until the 20th, but on 22 Aug 1941 he was discharged on compassionate grounds.
George enlisted again on 29 Jun 1942 and on 15 Jul 1942 he was sent to a training battalion in Northam. Given his earlier service and his protected employment, he was transferred on 28 Jul 1942 to the 109th Anti-Aircraft Training Battery in Fremantle. He spent from 13 - 19 August in the care of the 37th Australian Camp Hospital, and soon after returning to his unit he was posted to the 419th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun Station. He was granted 42 days leave from 10 Oct until 18 Nov, and on his return he was transferred to the 418th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun Station but was again relesed on leave without pay until 30 Dec 1942 to tend to the farm. Returning on 16 Jan 1943 he was transferred to the 423rd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun Station. George was transferred again on 26 Mar 1943, this time to the 418th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun Station where he was for two days before again being granted Leave without pay. Finally on 12 Apr 1943, under the Essential Services category he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot where he was discharged on 14 Apr 1943.
