Philip enlisted in the RAAF as a Steward TG V at the [[No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre]] on 29 Sep 1944, and was initially held against [[No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF]] until 6 Oct 1944 when he was transferred to the [[No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF]] to undertake the No. 288 Recruit Drill course. On 11 Nov 1944 he was posted to [[RAAF Base Pearce]] remaining with them until 8 Mar 1946 when he was posted to [[No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF]] to process his discharge which took place on 15 Mar 1946.
