War Service

During his initial training he was allocated to C Company of the 24th Battalion, but prior to December 1915 he was in A Company of the 28th Battalion. His early records are missing, so the circumstances of the transfer cannot be determined.

As a member of the 28th Battalion, Sid spent 14 to 16 Dec 1915 in the 2nd Australian General Hospital in Ghezireh with pharyngitis, before transferring on 31 Dec 1915 to the 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance, A Section. On 23 Nov 1916 he fell ill again and he was treated first by the New Zealand Mounted Field Ambulance and then the 26th Casualty Clearing Station at Kantara, before being admitted to the 14th Australian General Hospital at Abbassia in Egypt.

Found to have an "irritable heart" he was sent back to Australia from Suez for a "change". He was granted a medical discharge at 5th Military District on 3 Apr 1917.
