Sent to the Melville camp for training, he was released on 14 Oct 1941. On 17 Dec 1941 he again entered camp and was taken on full time before being detached on 29 Dec 1941 to the [[13th Australian Infantry Brigade]]'s Defence Platoon. On 7 Jan 1942 he had completed training and was tansferred to the 13th Brigade. During May 1942 he was granted 5 days leave, and on 13 Jul 1942 he was enlisted into the 2nd AIF. A week later (14th February) he entrained in Perth for South Australia where he arrived on 20 Feb 1943. On 1 Mar 1943 he left Adelaide for the Northern Territory, arriving 4 days later where he rejoined his unit. His NOK was changed on 1 Apr 1944 to his wife Alfreda Gertrude who he had married during 1941, and on 26 Apr 1944 he was admitted to the [[76th Australian Camp Hospital]] with diarrhoea, before being discharged back to his unit on 28 Apr 1944.

War Service

Ron enlisted in the CMF on 31 Jul 1941 at Yarloop and while part time he was allocated to the 16th Australian Infantry Battalion (Cameron Highlanders Regiment). Sent to the Melville camp for training, he was released on 14 Oct 1941. On 17 Dec 1941 he again entered camp and was taken on full time before being detached on 29 Dec 1941 to the 13th Australian Infantry Brigade HQ Defence Platoon. On 7 Jan 1942 he had completed training and was tansferred to the 13th Brigade. During May 1942 he was granted 5 days leave, and on 13 Jul 1942 he was enlisted into the 2nd AIF. A week later (14th February) he entrained in Perth for South Australia where he arrived on 20 Feb 1943. On 21 Nov 1944 he boarded USAT Evangaline in Darwin for Jacquinot Bay on New Britain, disembarking there on 26 Nov 1944. His rfecords next report that on 20 Jul 1945 he boarded SS Ormiston in Jacquinot Bay for Brisbane, disembarking there on 26 Jul 1945. On 13 ASep 1945 he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge, which took place on 9 Oct 1945.
