On 19 Jan 1918 they cancelled this requirement, and on 4 Jan 1918 he transferred to AIF training and he was allocated to the 22nd reinforcement for the 28th Battalion from 21 Jan 1918. Leslie sailed for England aboard the RMS Ormonde on 13 Mar 1918.
