War Service
Paul enlisted in the CMF on 27 Feb 1942 at Claremont and was posted to the RAE maintenance staff that were attached to the 110th Australian Base Hospital in Hollywood. On 1 Jul 1943 Paul was considered to be proficient and awarded a small pay increase. He was in need of medical attention at the hospital for a few days in mid-August 1943. This was to eventually lead to a declaration that he was unfit for service outside Australia or in hot and humid climates. In August 1943 the 18th Australian Maintenance Platoon was created at Karrakatta and staff like Paul were probably held on their strength.
Paul was also a patient of the 110th Australian Base Hospital between 28 and 30 Dec 1944, and perhaps as a result On 29 Jan 1945 Paul was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot to prepare for his discharge which occurred on 1 Feb 1945.
Post War
Kezia remained in Westfield (Camillo) until the early 1960s when she moved to Bentley. She died 21 Jan 1978 aged 89.
Notes
Army records have his year of birth as 1885. His burial in Karrakatta implies year of birth being 1886 (60 at time of death), and Australia, Births and Baptisms, 1792-1981 indicates year of birth as 1887, as does his Victorian Birth entry. The 1887 entry is thought to be the most likely.
