On 8 Mar 1944 Kathleen enlisted in the Australian Women's Army Service in Claremont, and on 13 March she was posted to [[6th AWS Training Company]]. Training completed, on 10 Apr 1944 she was posted to the [[4th Australian Motor Transport Training Depot]] to undertake a training course at Guildford. Training completed she was posted to [[4th Australian Engineers Stores]] where she was classified as a Driver Mechanic TGII. On 14 Sep 1944 her posting changed to [[10th Australian Base Store Platoon]]. On 5 Dec 1944 Kathleen Winifred (nee) Knapp married NX40027 Corporal Roy Frederick George Golby.
