Pre War
On 28 Dec 1930, Bruce married Ruth Prosser (1909 - 1974). Ruth died on 17 Dec 1974 aged 65 in Northam. They had two children.

War Service
Mobilised on 28 Jan 1942, but found to have significant damage to his back. Bruce enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Jardee on 29 Apr 1942, and was appointed Lance Corporal on 12 Sep 1942. On 31 Jul 1944, the 14th VDC Battalion was placed in Reserve, and formally struck off on 15 Oct 1945.
