War Service

Father William George Martin was on active service when he enlisted, and he joined him later in the the same unit. On arrival in England was posted to the 4th Training Battalion at Codford before going to France via Southampton on 16 Jan 1918.

Joined 16th Battalion in the field on 19 Jan 1918 as they prepare to move back to the forward area. Transferred to the 32nd Battalion on 7 Feb 1918. At the time the 32nd was in the front lines near Warneton on the Belgium/France border south of Ypres.

In December 1918 he was granted leave to go to the UK and following this, on 4 Feb 1919 he became a driver. Left for England on his way home on 12 May 1919.

Discharged 5th Military District 7 Aug 1919

No record of a marriage in WA so it is likely that he married Johanna Agnes in the UK. Johanna died 27 Jun 1965 aged 63.
