War Service

Casimir was enlisted in the part time CMF on 1 Aug 1941, allocated to the 118th Australian General Hospital. He was sent to the Melville Camp for initial training, before returning to his unit on 22 Aug 1941. On 3 Jan 1943 Casimir was charged with having been AWOL from midnight 1 Jan 1942 until midnight 2 Jan 1942. He was fined 30/- and forfeited a day's pay. He was then called up for full time service on 21 Feb 1942. On 1 Jul 1943 he was charged with Conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline for which he was fined £3.

Casimir was transferred on 7 Sep 1943 to the 5th Australian Field Ambulance ww2 and the next day enlisted in the 2nd AIF with army number WX32009. On 19 Nov 1943 he was admitted to the Main Dressing Station with bronchitis, returning to his unit on 24 Nov 1943. On 3 Dec 1943 he was charged with conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that his kit was not in inspection order by 11:30am on 2 Dec 1943. On 9 Jan 1944 he was granted 24 days leave, and on his return he was sent to the No 5 Staging Camp while the rest of the unit returned from leave. On 18 Feb 1944 he entrained for Queensland. From 1 Jan 1944 he had been granted proficiency pay.

On 5 Jul 1944 with the disbanding of his unit, Casimir was transferred to the 2/8th Australian Field Ambulance. On 21 Feb 1945 Casimir was evacuated to the 2/1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station with an unknown infection, before being transferred to the 2/2nd Australian General Hospital later the same day. On 1 Mar 1945 he was released back to his unit.

Casimir boarded SS Frederick Lykes in Townsville on 26 Apr 1945 for Morotai (NEI) where he disembarked on 3 May 1945. Rnroute he had been charged on 2 May 1945 with 'Neglecting to obey Ship's Routine Orders'. He received a £3 fine, and forfeited his proficiency pay. On 1 Jun 1945 he boarded USS LST 702 in Morotai for Labuan in British North Borneo, dismbarking there on 5 Jun 1945. On 2 Nov 1945 his proficiency pay was restored before being transferred to the 2/1st Australian Casualty Clearng Station on 1 Dec 1945. He was posted back to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot on 7 Feb 1946, embarking that day aboard SS Lake Charles Victory in Morotia for Brisbane where he disembarked on 16 Feb 1946. On 27 Mar 1946 Casimir was transferred to 71st Australian Camp Hospital and he worked with them until 19 Jun 1946 when he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge which occurred on 26 Jun 1946

UTILITY OVERTURNS - FOUR MEN HURT

Four men were injured when a utility skidded and over-turned in loose gravel on Albany-rd, about 5½ miles east of the Narrogin Inn, early yesterday. Taken to hospita! were :

• William Alfred Saunders (29), Canns-rd., Armadale, shoulder injury;
• Alfred Gregory (33), 5th Road, Armadale, concussion and fractured ribs;
• Angus George MacLean (23) and
• Ian Stuart MacLean (22), Devonshire-Tce., Armadale, concussion and lacerations.

Saunders and Gregory were allowed to leave Royal Perth Hospital after treatment, but the MacLeans were detained. Utility was being driven towards Perth by Saunders when it failed to take an S-bend. Although the vehicle was extensively damaged, 3 of its passengers escaped injury. They were Casimir Bavish, Railwav-Ave, Armadale, Morris Jerard O'Brien, Prospect rd, Armadale, and Norman James, Prospect-rd, Armadale.
