Brief History

In December 1941 at Victoria Barracks, Brisbane the Base HQ, Northern Command had formed to take over administrative and logistics function of HQ Northern Command. In April 1942 they were restructured and renamed HQ Queensland Line of Communications Area retaining the role for the rest of the war. Major sub units existed at Townsville covering north Queensland, and Brisbane covering south Queensland. In December a sub unit was established at Cairns to manage the large training camps on the Atherton Tablelands.

While they had begun with responsibility for the anti-aircraft defences in Queensland, this responsibility was transferred to HQ First Australian Army during April 1943. They continued to operate this way until the end of the war, when they became the new HQ Northern Command.
