Brief History
The 23rd Platoon was formed from the 2nd Australian Corps Defence and Employment Platoon at Dobodura in New Guinea, before moving to Finschhafen in December 1943. In April they moved to Barrine in Queensland in April 1944 to guard HQ 1st Australian Corps which was preparing for a future role north of New Guinea. In March 1945, together with ist Australian Corps HQs they moved to Morotai where they operated for the rest of the war. Part of their duties involved the guard duties at the No 1 Japanese Compound.
