Brief History

This unit began life as the Western Command Training Depot which was raised at Northam in December 1942. It was a part of the overall Western Command Training Centre. As a result of the general reorganisation occasioned by the creation of 3rd Australian Corps, they were renamed Western Australian Line of Communications Area AASC Training Depot in May 1942.

When AASC units were re-organised again in November 1942, they were renamed 8th AASC Training Company. In March 1943 the name changed again, this time to 3rd AASC Training Depot As a result of Western Australia's isolation, when training units on the eastern seaboard were amalgamated at Bonegilla in Victoria, the Western Australian unit continued. In May 1943 it was renamed 2nd AASC Training Centre. However, the centre was closed in January 1944 with Western Australian trainees sent to Bonegilla as well.
