Brief History
Formed at Greta in New South Wales as the 2nd Workshop & Park Company in late 1939, by December 1941 it had detachments covering northern NSW and Newcastle. The unit was restructured in May 1942 as the 60th Australian Corps Field Park Company. They moved to Penrith and then to Glenfern in Queensland in August 1942. In December 1942 they moved to Mapee in North Queensland to prepare camps for troops returning from service in New Guinea, and later for those preparing for action north of New Guinea. In April 1943 the unit moved to Wongabel.
With the need for building camps on the Atherton Tableland slowing, they moved to Cludin near Townsville in July 1943 before transferring to Adelaide River in the Northern Territory in January 1944. In May they were given a break at Wallgrove in NSW before moving in July to Toorbul Point to support units in South Queensland. They were part of the force detailed to capture the area around Brunei Bay, they landed at Labuan Island in June 1945. There they established a workshop, developed a sawmill, ran the electricity system and managed some refrigeration facilities.
