Brief History
During 1943 rehabilitation units were raised in each state to work with those soldiers being discharged on medical grounds, preparing them for re-entry into civilian life. The Army Rehabilitation Section (WA) was raised at Claremont during March 1943 before moving to Karrakatta in January 1945, and renamed 1st Australian Army Rehabilitation Unit.
The 2nd Australian Army Rehabilitation Unit was raised at Redbank in Queensland, the 3rd Australian Army Rehabilitation Unit at the Sydney Showfrounds in New South Wales, the 4th Australian Army Rehabilitation Unit at Caulfied Victoria, the 5th Australian Army Rehabilitation Unit at Wayville in South Australia, and the 6th Australian Army Rehabilitation Unit at Brighton in Tasmania
