Brief History

By early 1943 with rapid movement of units around northern Australia, the Queensland Line of Communication Signals had a series of unnamed detachments around North Queensland, and those around Cairns were grouped in April 1943 to form '57th Australian Operating Section as part of the Queensland Line of Communication Signals. The major unit was then located in Townsville and was renamed in June to 11th Line of Communications Signals, and later 3rd Company, Advanced LHQ Signals in August.

In June 1944 the base signals units in Cairns region were expanded, forming 4th Company, Advanced LHQ Signals with 57th Operating Section coming under them. In the December 1944 reorganisation the 4th Company Advanced LHQ Signals became 3rd Company, 25th Line of Communication Signals with the detachment from 57th Operating Section operating from Atherton until March 1945. The main body of 57th Operating Section continued to operate in Cairns until after the war ended.
