Brief History
The 2nd Fortress Company AAMC was mobilised at North Head in mid 1940, with detachments at South Head, Georges Heights and Port Kembla servicing Sydney's fixed defence units. In August 1942 the Georges Heights detachment was renamed 72nd Australian Camp Hospital, and the one at Port Kenbla 63rd Australian Camp Hospital. The unit at North Head becam 57th Australian Camp Hospital. This unit then took over the provision of medical services for all fixed defence units from January 1943, and continued to do so until the end of the war.
