Brief History
Brisbane port was defended by coast guns on the off shire islands, and in December 1942 the detachments manning guns at Caloundra and on Bribie Island were grouped to form the 4th Australian Fortress Company. Initially Company HQ was at Fort Bribie, but in January 1943 it moved to Caloundra. In May 1943 some of the Engineering functions were transferred to Artillery control, and the depot and shire defence sections joined HQ Brisbane Fixed Defences, leaving 4th Australian Fortress Company to be disbanded.
