Brief History

The unit was formed at Townsville in September 1942 to manage works projects in the Townsville/Charters Towers area. The 4th Docks Operating Company joined them and for a time the 2/3rd Docks Operating Company which moved to Cairns in January 1943. In June 1943, with reduced throughput at the wharf, the 4th Docks Operating Company moved in June 1943 to Kapooka, but personnel from the 2nd Anti Aircraft & Fortress Company were made available for works outside the Fortress area. The unit was one of the few units still operating in Townsville at the end of the war.
