Brief History

During the March 1944 reorganisation of Field Bakery Units, the 35th Australian Field Bakery Platoon was created from 2 Platoon, 11th Field Bakery' at Northern Gully near Mingenew in Western Australia. It relocated to Geraldton in March and then sent a section to the north west where they provided detachments at Exmouth, Port Hedland, Corunna Downs and Nookanbah. These detachments were withdrawn in late 1944 and the platoon concentrated in the Perth metropolitan area. With few troops remaining in WA, they remained the only baking unit in Western Australia, taking over the reduced workload from Claremont, Rottnest and Garden Island until the end of the war.
