Brief History
This unit began as the 5th Pioneer Company but in May 1942 at Watsonia in Victoria it was reorganised as the 34th Australian Infantry Training Battalion which undertook the training of reinforcments for the 4th Infantry Division. In May 1943 they moved to Cowra, and when recrui training was consolidated at Cowra in October, it changed its name to 4th Recruit Training Battalion and proved a base levelof training for all recruits regardless of the corps that they would be posted to. Around APril 1944 the unit appears to have been suspended before reforming in February 1945. The then provided training to recruits until the end of the war.
