Brief History
The 2nd Australian Special Radio Detachment was formed in Fremantle in March 1943 from local Anti Aircraft personnel and it moved to Exmouth in April to man an Air Force air search radar attached to the 4th Australian Anti Aircraft Battery. In November they moved back to Garden Island to man the coast defence radar on Mt Johnson. In December 1944 they were renamed 2nd Australian Radar Detachment, and the following month, leaving a detachment on Garden island, they moved to Rottnest Island to relieve 5th Aust Radar Detachment. With the reduced need for coastal defence the unit was disbanded in March 1945.
