Brief History
The 23rd Australian Line of Communication Salvage Section was formed at Karrakatta in march 1942, and worked from a base there with detachments pread around Western Australia collecting salvage that could be processed at the 5th Salvage Depot. With increasing troop numbers in Western Australia, a sister unit the 38th Australian Line of Communication Salvage Section was formed in August 1942. As troop numbers fell, main line units withdrew their salvage units, but the 23rd and 38th Salvage Sections remained working with 5th Salvage Depot until the end of the war.
