Brief History
the 2/3rd Australian Convalescent Depot was formed with 500 beds at Kafr Vitkin in Palestine as the Australian troops prepared to move back to Australia. They them moved to Dimra before leaving for Adelaide in February 1942.
In April hey moved to Strathalbyn until July 1942 when they moved to Warwick in Queensland. In December they moved to Milne Bay in Papua and opened facilities at Waigani to deal with convalescing patients (particularly Malaria patients) from 110 CCS and 2/1 CCS. Their next move was to Lae in February 1944, but a short time later in March they were sent back to Australia to have leave and rebuild at Strathpine in southern Queensland.
In June 1944 they moved to Warwick, where a planned move to New Guinea was cancelled in September. Instead they moved to Burleigh Heads in October and then in January 1945 they moved to Torokina on New Britain where they remained for the rest of the war.
