Brief History

Originally formed as the 1st Armoured Division Mobile Bath Unit at Goondiwindi in Queensland during April 1942. Personnel then moved to Ingleburn in New South Wales for training before joining the Armoured Division at Greta In July 1942. While the main unit undertook large scale exercises near Narrabri, the bath unit operated from Boggabri before becoming mobile in October. When the Armoured Division moved to WA, the bath unit was renamed as the 6th Infantry Division Mobile Bath Unit and was transferred to Brisbane in Queensland in January 1943. At this time it became a unit of the AAMC. In February it moved to Wondecla to service units on the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland, and in August it was again renamed, this time to 2/117th Australian Mobile Bath Unit.

In late 1944 with Australian units relieving US garrisons in New Guinea, the 6th Division and the 2/117th Mobile bath Unit moved to the Aitape region. The bath unit was established at Tadji in January 1945 and had sections servicing forward Brigades before it moved to Wewak following its recapture in May. They serviced 6th Infantry Division units from Wirui until the end of the war.
