Brief History
The unit was formed in Melbourne during April 1943 before moving to Meadowbank in New South Wales in July. It attached its platoons to the dock operating companies in forward port. leaving Company HQ to act as administrator and depot for men moving between platoons. in October 1943 2nd Australian Port Maintenance Company was formed to take over responsibility for ports in New Guinea, but they were returned in May 1944 when the nature of the New Guinea based unit turned to one of construction. In July 1945 the unit had a platoons in Darwin, Port Moresby, Torokina, Lae, Jacquinot Bay, Wewak, Aitape, Morotai, Labuan and Balikpapan. In August 1945 all docks unit were transferred to the new Transportation Corps.
