Brief History

A pre-war CMF battalion, in Decmber 1941 it was mobilised while in camp at Warradale to guard the beaches near Adelaide. In it was at that time known as 10th Australian Infantry Battalion (Adelaide Rifles Regiment). In May 1942 they moved to Warrawwong in NSW to join the 28th Infnatry Brigade Group, defending the Port Kembla sector and the passes off the coastal plain. In July they were withdrwn to Narellan and in August moved to Darwin. On arrival the unit was renamed 10/48th Australian Infantry Battalion, and placed in the Cetral Brigade Area with a camp 86 km south of Darwin. In November 1942 they moved into Darwin where they were based on the civilian airfield. This unit remained in the Northern Territory until June 1945 when it left for Brisbane. Here they were disbanded just before the end of the war In August 1945.
