'B' Australian Heavy Battery (Coast)

Brief History
'B' Heavy Battery was formed in Townsville in August 1942, training at Kissing Battery and working on the construction of the Magnetic Battery. They left for Port Moresby in September where they established what was to become the Bootless Bay Battery on high ground. Their two 155mm US guns were in tempory emplacements until March 1943 when they wqere placed in thier final positions.
The unit's name had been changed in January 1943 to 'C' Australian Heavy Battery, and in January 1944 to 'C' Australian Heavy Battery (Coast). They were relieved in February 1944 adn in April 1944 returned to Australia. Following leave they were located at Lytton in Queensland with other heavy battery personnel. With no further need for heavy coastal batteries, they moved to Narellan in NSW in October 1944 and were disbanded in January 1945.
