Aabenraa is a town on the south-east Jutland coast about 25 kilometres north of the German border.
Notes
No 101 Squadron was a squadron flying Lancasters by night. Ray flew with them prior to them being a special role aimed at jamming German night fighter operations. By the end of the war in Europe, the squadron sustained 1,176 aircrew killed and had lost 146 aircraft (including 33 in accidents).
