The unit then moved to RAF Haverfordwest where it was disbanded on 4 Jan 1944 by being absorbed into No. 6 Operational Training Unit RAF.

Brief History

No. 3 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit RAF (3 OTU) was a training unit of Royal Air Force Coastal Command, operating from 27 Nov 1940 until it was disbanded on 4 Jan 1944. The unit formed at RAF Chivenor on the north coast of Devon and was used to train crews for Bristol Beauforts, Avro Ansons, Vickers Wellingtons and Armstrong Whitworth A.W.38 Whitley aircraft.

On 29 Jul 1941, while the Whitleys and Wellingtons relocated to RAF Cranwell, the Beaufort section remained behind and became the No. 5 Operational Training Unit RAF. The unit then moved to RAF Haverfordwest where it was disbanded on 4 Jan 1944 by being absorbed into No. 6 Operational Training Unit RAF.
