Along with brother Alexander Rupert he initially was engaged by the British Red Cross as a chauffer in France arriving there on 26 Jul 1915. After leaving the Red Cross he was engaged as a Private with the Royal Army Service Corps as a driver # 183910.

Post War

On his return from the war, Hubert married Marian Augusta Clifton in 1919.
