War Service

Initial training was with the Remount unit based at Guildford. Saw service in Egypt and Palestine with rear echelon units, primarily in the Moascar area, but he managed a week as far forward as Jericho. On 17 Jan 1918 he was appointed Lance Corporal

One of six WA men to arrive home on the HMT Burma which stopped over in Colombo for a day with some of the men taking up an offer for a sightseeing trip to Kandy.

The remount unit was responsible for maintaining horse numbers in active units, looking after ill or worn out horses, and sourcing new mounts for the active units. Travelling back to Australia, he boarded the ship at Kantara.

Discharged 5th Military District on 14 Oct 1919.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries - 1925 with wife Mary Ethel in Kelmscott - a dairy farmer; 1931 - 1958 a group settler at "Group 83 Appadene" Manjimup. 1963 and 1968 Mary by herself at No. 4 Dunreath Cottages, Manjimup. Mary died 14 Apr 1971 aged 81.

Son Cpl Thomas Henry Edward Clarke WX26745 44th Battalion AIF died 12 Apr 1944 aged 22. Buried Atherton War Cemetery. Other children were Jack, Doreen, Ben and Nellie.

Harry is buried in the Manjimup cemetery.
