During 1941 Harold married Katherine Muriel Schultze (1920 - 2006) in Norseman. Catherine died 15 Feb 2006 in Kalgoorlie. They had 2 children.

War Service

Harold enlisted in the RAAF at the No. 4 RAAF Recruit Centre on 8 Jul 1942 aged 33. He was initially mustered as a Trainee group V. Following some basic drill training he was posted to No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF in Perth. On 23 Sep 1942 he took the next step in his training by being posted on 23 Sep 1942 to No. 1 Armament School RAAF at Hamilton, Victoria, graduating on 31 Oct 1942 as an Armourer group II. On 5 Dec 1942 he was remustered as a Fitter Armourer group I


On 21 Dec 1942 Harold was posted to No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF in Geraldton, where on 5 Mar 1943 he was promoted Leading aircraftman, and remaining with them until he was posted to No. 73 Operational Base Unit RAAF on 24 Aug 1943. His posting changed again on 2 Jul 1944 when he joined No. 25 (City of Perth) Squadron RAAF, remaining with them until 16 Dec 1944 when he was transferred to the No. 1 Personnel Depot RAAF


On 19 Feb 1945 Harold was tranferred to No. 450 Squadron RAAF and 6 months later on 14 Aug 1944 he was transferred to No 56 PTC. On 27 Aug 1945 Harold was transferred to No. 55 Operational Base Unit RAAF. His next move was on
