War Service

During training in Western Australia, Gordon is initially allocated to the 25th reinforcement draft for the 10th Light Horse Regiment, but on 1 Feb 1917 he was reallocated to the 26th reinforcement draft.

On arrival in Egypt he spent 3 weeks in Moascar Details Camp before being taken on strength by the 3rd Light Horse Brigade Training Regiment, and then by the 10th Light Horse Regiment on 23 Apr 1917 at Abasan el Kebir. From 9 - 19 Jan 1918 he was transferred to the Rest Camp Port Said, before returning to the 10th Light Horse, then north of Gaza in Palestine.

On 26 May 1918 Gordon was admitted to the 14th Australian General Hospital in Abbassia, remaining there until 25 Jun 1918 when he was transferred to the Rest Camp again until 25 Jul 1918 when he rejoined the 10th Light Horse at Wadi Aujah near the Jordan River, along with 31 other reinforcements from Moascar. Amongst the last to come home from Egypt, Gordon was discharged by the 5th Military District on 11 Sep 1919.

Post War

Gordon married Mary Isabel Buchanan in 1924. Mary died 30 Sep 1982 in Wembley Downs.
