On 27 Jul 1940 Ernest married Mavis Jean Buckingham (1919 - 202) in Kelmscott. Mavis died in South Perth on 30 Jul 2002 aged 82.
War Service
Ernest's original enlistment was with the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion, serving with them from 2 Mar 1942 until the day before he resigned in order to join the RAAF on 22 May 1943, seeking to become a pilot.
Ernest was discharged on 8 Feb 1946.
Post War

His brother Phillip Herbert Martin DFC & Bar served in the RAAF based in England.
