ANSWERING THE CALL.
To-day 46 men presented themselves at the enlisting office at Francis-street .....E.H. Broadhurst, Kelmscott.[1]

Edward was wounded in the afternoon of 27 Oct 1917 during the early stages of the successful attack on Beersheba. The 10th Light Horse had dug in and taken up a strong defensive position on the El Buggar ridge south of Gaza. They were providing cover and relief to the British 8th Yeomanry Brigade, when they came under fire from Turkish machine guns and rifles from another ridge some 1,500 yards to their east. They held the ridge until relieved by infantry late in the day. One soldier was killed and one other injured with Broadhurst that day. Edward sustained a GSW to his left thigh.

Returned to Australia and was discharged by the 5th Military District on 19 Nov 1919

359th Casualty List.. included ...WOUNDED, Broadhurst, Edwin Hanson (Kelmscott).[2]
