Pre War
On 7 Dec 1911, nine year old Thomas arrived in Fremantle aboard SS Zealandic from Liverpool. His father, mother and older brother and sister accompanied him.
During 1930 Tom married Gladys Rita Retallack (1907 - 1981). They had 4 children including James (Jim) Stanley Russell (1930 - 2015) and Thomas Ernest Russell (1939 - ).

War Service
Mobilised at Claremont on 22 Jun 1942. As a Main Roads Maintenance worker it appears that he was exempt from full time service, and was thus allocated to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. His records contain no information of where or how long he served.
