Early Life
Sarah Ellen Abernethy (nee Ray) was born in Northumberland England in 1907. Her father was Jon William Ray and her mother was Mary Ray (nee Percy). In the 1911 England and Wales census the family was living in Bedlington, Northumberland. John William Ray aged 29 and Mary aged 30 had 3 children. Robert Tait Ray aged 5, Sarah Ellen Ray aged 4 and James Percy Ray aged 1. A further two daughters were born after the census Margaret A in 1912 and Mary (known as Mamie) in 1917. In 1923 the family travelled on board the ship "Orvieto" to Western Australia. Sarah was also known as "Sis".
Marriage and Children
Sarah married Henry 'Harry' Joseph Abernethy at Byford in 1931. Sarah and Henry had two daughters Thora Elaine Brown born 5 August 1932 died 27 July 2015, and Elsie Lynette Bremner born 24 February 1938, died 24 October 2015.
