Pre War

On 5 Apr 1941 Ron married Florence Mabel Smith (1913 - 2010) in Katanning. They had two children, the first one being Peter Ronald (b. 22 Nov 1944)).

War Service

Enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre 30 Oct 1941 as a Trainee Grade V, he undertook No 49 Drill Course at No. 4 School of Technical Training RAAF in North Adelaide from 24 Nov 1941 to 23 Jan 1942, while almost simultaneously completing the No 124 Trainee Technical Fitter Course from 24 Nov 1941 to 23 Jan 1942. Ronald was then posted to the No. 1 Engineering School RAAF at Ascot Vale in Melbourne to participate in the No 142 Technical Mechanics Course from 1 Feb -17 Apr 1942. Following training on 18 Apr 1942 he qualified as a Flight Mechanic, and on 28 Apr 1942 Ronald was transferred to No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF at Geraldton, where he was appointed a Leading Aircraftman on 18 Jul 1942.


In early 1943 Ronald was again in training at the No. 1 Engineering School RAAF, where he was remustered as a Fitter IIE, and reverting to Aircraftman on 14 Jan 1943. He was posted back to the No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF on 17 Feb 1943. Again appointed Leading Aircraftman on 14 Apr 1943, he remained with them until 20 Jan 1945 when he was posted to No. 25 (City of Perth) Squadron RAAF. On 23 Nov 1945 they released him to the No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF's Discharge section where his discharge took place on 30 Nov 1945.
