Peter had seen service with the British Army (?) at Gallipoli, Egypt and France .On 26 Jun 1926 Peter married Gladdis Sylvia Maria Jones in St Mary's Cathedral, Perth. Mary died on 26 Apr 1975 in Bentley, aged 77.

War Service
On 30 Nov 1940 Peter enlisted with the part time 'Y' (Militia) Company of the 5th Australian Garrison Battalion. He was called up for full time service from 3 Feb 1941 and on 25 Apr 1941 he was given a trade grouping as Signaler TG III. On 15 Aug 1941 the trade grouping was cancelled and changed to TG II. Peter was AWOL from 1:00pm hours until 4:30pm on 5 Dec 1941 costing him a fine of 10 shillings ($1). His trade grouping was cancelled on 26 Jan 1942, but on 11 Aug 1942 he was appointed Lance Corporal.
AWOL again, from 4:00pm on 16 Sep 1942 until apprehended by Military Police at 1:30am on 17 Sep 1942 for which he was reprimanded. However he was also charged with drunkenness in Peth and for this he forfeited a day's pay. In early 1943 he was sent on two courses, after which he was transferred to the 8th Australian Prisoner of War Guard Company on 15 Oct 1943. On 7 Jan 1945 Peter was transferred to the 10th Australian Garrison Battalion and almost immediately he was sent to Harvey to undertake an Infantry Refresher Course after which he was detached to the 29th Australian Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery on 6 Mar 1945, remaining with them until 8 Oct 1945 when he returned to his battalion. On 2 Nov 1945 he was transferred to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge which occurred on 8 Nov 1945
