Pre War
During 1928 John had married Lillian Grace Lowry (1900 - 1940) locally. Violet May died on 14 Dec 1940 in Bedfordale. their two children were John William Roberts (1927 - 2011) and Norman James Roberts (1931 - 2010) Electoral Roll entries: 1936 - 1943 at Bedfordale, labourer.
War Service
On 26 Apr 1942 John enlisted at Mundijong in the Volunteer Defence Corps, allocated to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion until 1 Jul 1942 when he transferred to the 12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion, serving with them until he was discharged on 1 May 1945
Post War
During 1948 John married Violet May Bowden (1910 - 1998) locally. Violet May died on 9 Dec 1998, aged 88 in Midland. Violet and John had two children.
