Pre War
Electoral Roll entries: 1943 at Prospect road, Armadale, carrier. During 1936 had been seriously ill with Typhoid Fever.
War Service
James was mobilised on 6 Mar 1941 in Perth and given Army number W20809. However as a Transport Operator he was in an exempt occupation. On 5 Mar 1943 he was transferred from Area 16A to the Volunteer Defence Corps and was allocated to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 1 May 1944 along with the rest of his unit he was placed in the Reserve.

Post War
During 1948 James married Alma Dorothea Morcombe (1912 - 2005) the widow of Frank Morcombe, in the local area. Alma died on 21 Jun 2005 aged 93 at Salter Point.
