Pre War
Between 1908 and 1917 Harry was a student at the Mundijong and Beenup schools, On 2 Sep 1933 Harry married Dorothy Bain Pike (1910 - 1979). They had four children including Peter William Nairn (1934 - 2016).

War Service
On 22 Mar 1942 Harry enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps and was allocated to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 1 Jul 1942 Harry was promoted Corporal in 'D' Company based on Armadale. From 16 - 23 Aug he attended a Demolition School at Guildford, and on 23 Sep 1942 he was promoted Lance Sergeant, before reverting to Private at his own request on 25 May 1944. On 1 May 1945 Harry was placed on the Reserve.
