War Service

While Henry's records took four months after enlistment to record him being allocated to the 14th reinforcement draft for the 10th Light Horse Regiment, he is in a photo dated 17 Nov 1915 of members of that draft. He travelled with them to Egypt and was caught up in the reorganisation of the AIF that took place before troops left for France.

Henry was reallocated to the 4th Division Ammunition Column on 7 Apr 1916, and shortly after, on 5 Jun 1916 in Serapeum, Egypt he was charged with being on land of a private tenant with intent to steal melons - awarded 28 days field punishment. Henry entered France from Egypt at Marseilles aboard SS Oriana on 13 Jun 1916.

He then spent much of Aug and Sep 1917 in the 49th Field Ambulance, 3rd Casualty Clearing Station and 39th General Hospital in France with Gonorrhoea.

However, by Oct 1918 he had been promoted to Bombardier, and he was granted leave in England, and again in Jan 1919 when he took his leave in Brussels. Left France on 21 Mar 1919 for the UK on his way home to Australia.

Discharged 5th Military District 7 Sep 1919.
