Pre War
On 6 Oct 1933 John married Ethel Lois Harris (1909 - 2002)in the Congregational Church, Roleystone. Son Eddis William (1938 - 2006); Son Frank Ernest (1938 - 2000).

War Service
John was mobilised into the CMF on 3 Apr 1942, and on 30 Apr 1942 he was allocated to the Western Command Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depot before being called up for full time service on 27 Apr 1942. From 29 Jun 1942 until 19 Jul 1942 John was detached to the 29th Australian Garrison Battalion at Salter Point. John enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 24 Sep 1942.
On 10 Oct 1942 John was admitted to the 118th Australian General Hospital, returning to his unit on 29 Oct 1942, and remained with them until he was granted leaved from 7 - 14 Mar 1943. On 8 May 1944 John was admitted to the 118th Australian General Hospital with pharangitis before being released to the 109th Australian Convalescent Depot on 24 May 1944 ahead of returning to his unit on 7 Jun 1944. On 21 Nov 1944 he was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital, remaining with them until 30 Dec 1944 when he was released to the Lady Mitchell Convalescent Home until 17 Jan 1945 when he returned to his unit.
On 20 Sep 1945 John was transferred to the 124th Australian General Transport Company. he was detached for short periods to the 7th Returned Stores Depotand the Bulk Vegetable Depot before being sent to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot on 9 Nov 1945 to prepare for his discharge which took place on 16 Nov 1945.
Post War
