Australian Archives index contains an entry for a transfer of shares in a mining lease at Cue in Western Australia. Stefano was naturalised on 8 Mar 1938.

War Service

Stefano enlisted in the CMF, part time from 21 May 1942, and full time from 31 Jul 1942, and was posted to General Reinforcements. On 10 Aug 1942 this changed to the 26th Labour Company at Davelak, and then to the 12th Labour Company. On 15 Sep 1942 Stefano was detached to the Engineers Depot at York and on 20 Jan 1943 he accepted an option to enlist in the 2nd AIF. He was admitted to the 118th Australian General Hospital on 20 Jul 1943 with scabies, before being released on 2 Aug 1943. On 15 Sep 1942 Sefano was detached for duty to the 9th Australian Advanced Ammunition Depot at Guildford. There on 25 Oct 1943 he was admitted to 75th Australian Camp Hospital with scabies, released to duty by them on 30 Oct 1943, but re-admitted on 15 Nov 1943 until 22 Nov 1943. Stil having problems he was again admitted to the camp hospital from 14 - 17 Jan 1944. He remained with the ammunition depot until 24 Feb 1944 when he rejoined his parent unit (12th Employment Company).


On 2 Aug 1944 Stefano was transferred to the 22nd Australian Garrison Battalion to act as an interpreter, and on 5 Sep 1944 he was promoted Acting Sergeant. On 25 Sep 1944 he was detached to the 26th Australian Prisoner of War Control Camp at Liverpool (NSW) which was administered by the 21st Australian Garrison Company. On 21 Nov 1944 Stefano was admitted to the Manning River District Hospital with a comprehensive fracture of his left thumb. Stefano's rank of Sergeant was confirmed on 9 Dec 1944, and on 10 May 1945 Stefano was transferred to NSW Line of Communication General Details Depot who then passed him on to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot where he arrived on 23 May 1945 to prepare for discharge. On 30 May 1945 Stefano was discharged early to return to an essential service - timber industry.
